City Exploration Food Lunch Singapore

Whole Foods in Singapore: Plentyfull

Since I moved back to Singapore from the United States, I constantly dream of my beloved grocery store, Whole Foods. It was where I spent most of my lunchtimes – perusing aisles of organic snacks and picking my fresh salad to-go at their unmatched salad bar.

I miss those fresh flavours that so easily come through each bite of their salads. Thankfully, Plentyfull at Millenia Walk brings back some of those fond memories, and will tide me over until my next trip back to the USA.

The space reminds me of a more indoor, air-conditioned version of another restaurant –  Open Farm Community, which focuses on farm-to-table style food. Everything from the leafy centrepiece which hangs from the ceiling to the generous natural light beaming in creates an environment for mental and physical relief.

The food is no different. An easy menu points any diner in the direction of the healthy and healthier. There are no over-the-top portions here, and every dish generally has a good balance of carb, greens and protein. I had their “Caesar salad” which deviates from the original in that the dressing is less rich, and croutons are replaced with thin crostini. The poached egg creates an unctuous bite that makes the meal filling and delicious (well, it can make anything delicious).

Do not leave without grabbing one of their smoothies. The amount they give you is just right, as the glass is slimmer and not as tall and daunting as what you get at a sports bar. I had this delicious nutritious concoction of sweet potato, banana and soy milk. I felt like I was having a delicious pie for dessert.

Oh, pie…that is my forever weakness.

This place pairs (or pears) well with a card I recently created, available at www.tineedino.com. Check it out!
